That is an excellent question, and one well worthy of answering.
However, before I answer, I need to preface this by saying that I do not follow any particular Christian leader. I have always been very careful to follow Jesus Christ. My sole allegiance is to Him and Him alone. That is not to say, however, that He’s never led me through the guidance of His servant leaders. I’ve had wonderful pastors in my personal life, but none that hold a worldwide platform. The greatest men and women of God who have influenced my personal life have been ordinary everyday people; precious servants who hold no fame or notoriety, and have never sought the accolades of man. They are humble servants who have sown into my personal life through prayer and loving Christian service.
With that said, there are not many well-known Christian leaders whom I could recommend. Some of the greatest, I believe, are no longer with us today. Their spiritual legacies remain only through their written work.
Regarding Christian leadership, there are four individuals God is bringing to mind, which I personally feel compelled to share, being confident in their reputation with God and man:
#1.) David Wilkerson — This is very possibly the most genuine of any Godly man in our present time, and was considered a prophet by many. Pastor David Wilkerson held a spotless reputation, and was universally held in high regard. He did miraculous and fearless exploits for God. He authored the book, The Cross and the Switchblade, and founded Times Square Church in New York City and Teen Challenge. Although Pastor David Wilkerson is no longer with us, his sermons have been archived on the Times Square Church website. When I need a spiritual mentor or pastor, the Holy Spirit consistently leads me to his humble servant, Pastor David Wilkerson.
#2.) Francis Chan — I believe Francis Chan is one of the most genuine Spirit-filled leaders of this present generation. He has truly caught the heart of God and is fearless in his stand for Jesus Christ. He currently leads We Are Church in San Francisco, and is the author of Crazy Love.
#3.) A.W. Tozer — A.W. Tozer, born in 1897, had a phenomenal intimacy with Jesus Christ, which permeates all his written work. He’s considered one of the “greats” by many scholars. He’s a man truly filled with wisdom and the Holy Spirit. You will be blessed by his work. He will boldly challenge you in your walk with God.
#4.) Watchman Nee — For those of you who do not know him, Watchman Nee was born in 1903 having served the free Chinese church until he was imprisoned under the rise of communist China. Watchman Nee died in prison without burial. He suffered for Christ in ways no one will ever know, continuing to serve God without wavering. He authored many incredible works for God before and during his years of imprisonment that continue to bring revelation to God’s word. He was a man filled with the Spirit of God, and is an enormous gift to the Body of Christ.
I humbly recommend the above men of God without any known reservation. I trust you will be blessed by their service in the kingdom, which continues to bear fruit today.
