You Have a Story Worth Telling.
Below you will find our menu and requisition form.
As an author I practice independent journalism and other services in the publishing industry to assist the Body of Christ, and when appropriate, those in the secular community as well. These services are varied, being specific to authors, writers, and those who wish to have their stories told in a professional manner exclusively outside social media.
Thank you, and we look forward to serving you!
All proposed services require a contractual agreement.
All contracts are bilateral unless otherwise stated.
All invoicing and monies are handled via Stripe.
Writers & Authors
To maintain ethical integrity within the industry, we render the following services without a fee.
Federal Trade Commission Guidelines
We will never charge you a fee in exchange for an endorsement or book review. Nor will we negotiate our services in exchange for monies, goods, services, favors, gifts, or rewards.
Endorsements and Book Reviews are types of testimonials used in marketing creative work, and for all practical purposes are considered an “advertisement” by the US Federal Government (Federal Trade Commission). Paid endorsements are never looked upon favorably within the industry, and by law must be disclosed. A “paid endorsement” is one gained by the exchange of monies, goods, services, favors, gifts, or rewards.
We strictly prohibit paid endorsements for the performance of book reviews, testimonials, or endorsements of any kind. A professional opinion toward any creative work, when used specifically for marketing purposes, should never be bought as being made available for purchase (“for sale”) in exchange for any of the aforementioned. We abide by this moral and ethical standard both in the giving and receiving of endorsements or testimonials of any kind. Upon drawing a contractual agreement, all such terms will be clearly outlined and delineated prior to signing.
When networking within the industry, if you ever see a review or endorsement that was obtained via any of the aforementioned, or upon seeking a review or endorsement for your work are asked to provide any of the aforementioned, please beware. Although lawful, that source and their opinion may be of questionable reputation and intent.
See this FTC link for more information.
Book reviews are important for any author. They not only add validity to your work, but they can also provide an honest appeal to read it. In the very least, they offer the author constructive and critical feedback for their work that will advance them in their craft.
I do book reviews of my own volition, as well as upon request for both Christian and secular works. For a look at some of my reads and to find out what I look for in an excellent work please visit my Recommended Reading page. Five star reviews can be found here as well. If you plan to submit a request for review of your work, you will want to visit this page.
Fee are strictly prohibited for a book review. I perform them judicially when I have time. If you have authored a work you’d like for me to review, please send a request specifically for a “book review” via our requisition below. When submitting your requisition, please provide the following:
• Title with ISBN
• An overview of the book
• Publication date
• Genre and BISAC
• Page Count
• Link to your work
• Author Bio
• Your inspiration for the work
Book reviews are a gift to the author, and to all those who would aspire to read their work. They are an investment of extraordinary time and energy, both in reading the work and writing the review. Therefore, they are one of the greatest means of marketing used within the industry.
I prefer to review books that offer their audience a compelling, positive, and life-changing story, regardless of genre. Reviews within the industry should be sought by those within a similar niche as well as by those who write in a different camp and can offer a alternative perspective. Any author needs both to obtain a true opinion of their work within the public eye.
Once I agree to review your book a signed contractual agreement will need to be established. I will also need you to provide a complimentary digital or hard copy. If you prefer to send a hard copy, please submit the copy to our mailing address with the appropriate correspondence or tracking information. If you are sending a digital copy, please make sure it is a locked PDF document.
Book reviews typically come with a one to five star rating. My ratings are as follows:
Five Stars (Excellent) : This is considered a work of literary excellence in every respect, being one I would not only recommend, but possibly read again and further pass along to others. It absolutely begs to be read and shared.
Four Stars (Good): This work is good, but it could be better. It’s worthy of reading, but may need some attention in specific areas to truly shine.
Three Stars (Fair or Nominal): This is a nominal book (and the industry is glutted with them). It sits on the proverbial fence. It’s not good, but it’s not bad either. Someone may benefit from it, but it’s not beckoning to be read. Take it or leave it.
Two Stars (Unsatisfactory): This has not made the grade either in storyline or literary artistry, and is not one I would recommend.
One Star (Poor): This is a failing work. Sadly and regrettably, it should have never been published.
Regardless of where your book may stand in the end, it’s important to understand that book reviews are entirely subjective to the reader, and are never to be construed as a personal attack upon the author or their work. If I agree to review your book, I will indeed read it — cover to cover — and give an honest opinion that is constructive, even if it may be critical. You should be able to benefit from that review in a way that will offer you growth in your craft.
If the book is one I find compelling enough, and worthy of five stars, I may also choose to write a blog post on that work, or do an interview with the author, which would serve the author well in marketing their work.
If your book falls below three stars, I will do you the courtesy of letting you know prior to submitting the review. I will not disclose the review to you at that time, but I will give you the option of not having it published. If you choose not to have it published, that would need to be in writing (as per agreement), and I would then release that review to you personally via a locked and signed document within an email.
An excellent endorsement adds validity to your work. As an author it is my honor to endorse the written works of others who are serving the LORD with biblical integrity. If you have a work that you would like to have endorsed, please submit your inquiry here.
Please note that we require agreement with sound biblical doctrine and theology prior to any endorsement. Therefore, we kindly ask that you review our CORE prior to making a submission or request.
1.) Requisition with biblical agreement of our CORE (see our requisition form below).
2.) Signed contractual agreement.
3.) The work must be of sound biblical theology and scriptural integrity.
4.) Submission of the full body of work, final draft, in digital PDF format or other locked document. A hard manuscript may be mailed. When mailing please make sure to provide the appropriate correspondence with tracking information.
5.) Submission of the final draft must be a minimum of one month prior to the deadline.
6.) Endorsement signature must read as follows: Erin Pavlicek, Author and Founder of Appointed Time Press, LLC unless otherwise specified.
7.) The endorsement I provide may not be edited (altered), but may be used in any portion of the work, or in any marketing as the author sees fit, either in part or whole.
1.) Fees & Schedules: Fees are strictly prohibited for an endorsement. I am always honored to endorse a work for the LORD that will glorify Him and further His kingdom. I allow a limit of one scheduled endorsement per month. Therefore, endorsements are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
2.) Written Agreement: A written contractual agreement must be drawn for an endorsement. This protects your work as well as this company. Prior to any official agreement I will conduct a preliminary review of the work whereby I consider whether or not it is agreeable. There are times when a work may not be agreeable, at which point a declination would be served (see below).
3.) Processing of the Manuscript: It is always the goal to read the work cover to cover, line upon line. However, depending upon the specific genre and its length (or otherwise), a worthy endorsement may be given with a screening of the work in which I read a portion of each chapter. A seasoned and developed reader is easily able to determine the quality of a work using this method. This is customary for longer bodies of work, and for various non-fiction genres such as documentaries, textbooks, or studies. Appropriate and accurate sourcing (both biblical referencing as well as research) should always be taken into consideration as well. Please make sure your references, bibliographies, and footnotes are included in the manuscript, and sourced accurately. The agreement will clearly state how the manuscript will be read.
4.) Rating: Endorsements must be worthy of a five-star rating. If I endorse a work, I’ll do my best to provide the reader an honest opinion that would render their eager engagement within two to five sentences. Any work earning less than five stars is not something I can, or should, endorse.
5.) Public Review Following Publication: All endorsements will include a separate and thorough review on Amazon, and any other platform of choice (i.e. Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, etc.). A five-star review, which would indicate a work of excellence, will also be carefully considered for placement on my page, Recommended Reading under ‘Recommended Reads’. To see a list of my recommended reads and the elements I look for in a work of excellence, please visit my page.
6.) Submission of the Official Endorsement: Once I’ve read the work I will submit the official endorsement in writing via a pdf locked document with an electronic signature. All official endorsements, once submitted are deemed unalterable, and will be kept on file indefinitely. In other words, they cannot be retracted. Therefore, endorsements are never taken lightly, which is why they provide such credibility to the author and validity to an authored work within the industry. I endeavor to give a standard 250-300 word statement that is honest, forthright, and compelling. Anything longer is considered generous and may actually be counter-productive to its intended purpose, as it may not be fitting to wholly publish within a book.
7.) Rights to the Endorsement: We maintain all rights to the said endorsement. Endorsements are irrevocable for the specified edition of work for which they are intended. If there is another edition published (previous, revised, or otherwise), that said endorsement will not be applicable to those previous or later editions. Such stipulations will be outlined in the agreement, including information on how to extend an endorsement for a previous or later edition of work, should it ever be published. However, the author may use the said endorsement as they see fit to market the intended edition, in whole or part, so long as the copy is not altered and appropriate attribution is given.
I may decline any endorsement if I first review the material and find it disagreeable with, or in violation of sound biblical theology or scripture. This would be the most common reason a declination would be served.
Should the endorsement be accepted, and after a preliminary review I find the work unworthy of five stars, this would require an unfortunate declination to endorse the work. In such cases, I will make it known to the author in writing, kindly outlining the reason why I cannot endorse the work. Let it be known that endorsements are entirely subjective, and opinions can vary widely. Therefore, any declination should never be construed as a direct insult or personal attack upon the author or their work. We all have room to grow and develop even as we all have our personal taste in literary art. If that should ever be the case, I will only provide feedback which can be useful to the author upon request, should they desire it. With that said, I will refrain from giving unsolicited advice.
Other possible reasons for a declination could be the following:
1.) Time constraints
2.) Length of the body of work
3.) Contrary views with which we cannot agree, support, or be associated
4.) Poorly written or incomplete content
5.) Questionable authorship (anonymous works or those under a pen name will require a verified author identity)
The following services incur a fee.
Are you a writer or author? Do you have a book up your sleeve? Do you have a message? Have you begun to draft a work? If you answered yes to any of these, what you need is a peer review. That means a peer in the industry provides you critical feedback on your work that affords you a greater chance of successful completion. Therefore, choosing your peer by whom your review is obtained, is of critical importance. I strongly suggest staying within the niche of your genre. If you are certain I’m the right person, I’m honored to be chosen as the one you trust to review your work critically.
The focus and goal of a peer review is to afford the author viable and constructive feedback, allowing them to complete a brilliant piece of work that accomplishes the purpose for which it is truly written, speaking successfully to their target audience. This is achieved through a fine critiquing of the work on key literary points.
A valuable peer review answers core questions such as:
• Is this something worthy of publication? Has this “story” been published before? If so, was it successful? Is it “recycled” or an original?
• What voice and style do I use for this story or genre? Is it appropriate?
• How should I format my work? Does it reflect the message? Does it hide it or dilute it?
• Who is my audience — really? And how do I reach them? What language do they generally speak?
• Is my writing engaging the reader or boring them? Do I insult my readers unknowingly?
• What kind of quality do I exhibit in my writing? Do I possess the skill I need? Where are my weaknesses and strengths?
• And then there are more precise questions regarding the finer literary points, which are discussed below.
I am happy to write a peer review for an article or book. Varying genres are accepted, including those that are of secular content. Many secular works have very worthy messages that need to be heard, at times being theologically indifferent, and are therefore applicable candidates for a peer review.
Peer reviews are different than endorsements in the following:
1.) Peer Reviews do not obligate an endorsement of the work, although it may be favorable.
2.) They are privately shared with the author. There are no public ratings.
3.) They are not performed upon the full body of work, but upon a sampling of up to three chapters.
4.) Any draft is acceptable (first, second, or final).
5.) Formal editing may not yet be achieved. Therefore, only basic editing is required (spelling, grammar, punctuation).
6.) Peer Reviews provide an objective and professional critiquing of the work on key literary points (see below).
This is where the bulk of a peer review affords the author very precise and constructive feedback. Literary artistry varies widely. Every author has a unique voice and style. Depending on the genre and content, that voice and style will differ. However, there are certain literary rules that should never be crossed or broken (although many have attempted to do so).
The content is reviewed with regard to its literary artistry and skill on several points. The goal of any author is to write a brilliant body of work with excellence. With that said, a great story may not always be well-written. Conversely, a poor story may be written brilliantly. Yet neither are worthy of the time their audience will invest to read the work. With that said, whether poetry or prose, and regardless of genre, your work will be thoroughly, critically, and honestly reviewed on the following points:
1.) Story (genre specific)
2.) Artistry & Imagination
6.) Language (Linguistics)
11.) Content Readability
1.) A signed contractual agreement will need to be obtained before your work is accepted. This fully protects your unfinished work as well as our company. That contractual agreement will include full payment of our $275 fee.
2.) Submissions must be in a digital unlocked document (docx is preferred). A hard manuscript may be mailed, but is not preferred. No handwritten documents are accepted.
3.) Submission must be a minimum of one month prior to the deadline.
4.) Provide a minimum of one chapter, and a maximum of three chapters. They may come from any portion of the work, so long as it best reflects the storyline or subject matter. They must be consecutive chapters, providing continuity. Choose wisely. If you have a finished body of work, I make an exception in asking for the first and last chapter in addition to any chosen three.
5.) A first draft, in the very least, should be submitted. That means all spelling, grammar, and punctuation is fully edited. Anything less (such as a rough draft) will be declined. Any successive draft, up to the final draft, is acceptable.
6.) The sample copy (manuscript) should be double-spaced with two-inch margins, allowing for literary remarks, comments, and editorial suggestions.
7.) Make sure all pages are numbered at the bottom in the following format: (Page 1 of ___).
8.) Your name and the title of your work should be on every page header including the word: “SAMPLE” or “COPY”.
9.) Please disclose which draft you are submitting so I know at what stage you are in with your writing. This will make a big difference in how I ultimately critique your work.
The Completed Peer Review
1.) I will return your original document with all remarks and editorial comments in the margins and spacing provided, which will be noted in red. Anything unsuitable for the parameters of margins will be documented separately with the appropriate reference point (i.e. page ___, ¶ ____, sentence ____). I may comment extensively in a separate document if the point is noteworthy.
2.) The document will be returned to you with the additional header word: “EDITED” by Erin Pavlicek of Appointed Time Press, LLC and the date. The filename will also include the word “EDITED” by Erin Pavlicek of Appointed Time Press, LLC with the title, date, and author name for ease of storage and retrieval. It will be unlocked so you can make any changes if you wish. However, to preserve the work I strongly suggest making a duplicate of the completed peer review immediately upon receipt, changing the filename to “DUPLICATE”, and locking the document so nothing is accidentally lost.
3.) By default I keep an “eternal” copy of both the sample and edited documents. If you ever need a copy in the future, please ask, and I will retrieve and send one at your request. However, if you want my copy deleted from our database and files, we will honor that request. Simply note that in writing with a signature, OR you may have this option negotiated at the time of contract.
4.) I will submit a full overview of your work in a thorough written critique on each literary point.
5.) After you’ve received the review, I will make a 60-minute appointment with you to review your document over the phone or via Skype so we can discuss all literary points. This provides you the opportunity to ask questions and obtain further clarification. Please have your questions ready so we can maximize our time. I will happily initiate the call.
Are you an aspiring author? You will need an objective opinion on your work. When time allows, I am happy to review your work privately, one-on-one, in a 30-minute meeting with you via phone or Skype. This is not a formal critique or peer review. Therefore, any draft is fine, and I limit the document previewed to one chapter of your choosing. I will read your chapter twice. It must be submitted in a locked PDF document. No written remarks or editorial points are made. This is a verbal discussion following my read.
A signed contractual agreement must be obtained prior to my receipt of your document. That agreement protects both parties, and will include full payment of our $125 fee.
If you are an aspiring author, I invite you to read my post: Mastering the Art of Writing: Six Ways to Hone Your Skills & Develop Your Craft
Fees where applicable.
We love to advocate for others, and one of the ways we do that is by introducing new people and ministries to our audience. Interviews are merely one way that can happen, and we’ve found it’s one of the very best. (There are no fees for interviews.)
Please know that interviews come by invitation only. If you’ve been offered an interview, we will also provide you all the details you need to prepare with a consent form and a copy of the SPJ Code of Ethics. A signed contractual agreement will be necessitated. We conduct interviews in the following ways:
1.) In person
2.) By phone
3.) Via Skype
4.) In writing
Not every option will always be possible, but we want to offer you a choice that best suits you. Our interviews are typically 30 to 60 minutes (depending on the subject), and they are published on our blog under the category “Interviews” and any subsequent category that would be appropriate for that topic presented. If you’ve never been interviewed before, it may seem intimidating at first. Therefore, we want to outline some basics that may put you at ease and help you prepare should you choose to accept our invitation.
Please know that the purpose of our interviews is to promote other ministries for the glory of God and to advance His kingdom. The intent is not to glorify man, but Christ who is living through that particular individual or entity. Individuals who demonstrate the same core principles, mission, and values of this ministry are of particular interest to us.
Appointed Time Press, LLC is a registered member of the Society of Professional Journalists and abides by the SPJ Code of Ethics. All information disclosed is strictly at the discretion of the interviewee. The interviewee has the right to decline any question at any time — no questions asked. We maintain strict ethical standards so that you are represented with excellence and your content is presented with accuracy.
Whenever possible, the interviewee is encouraged to record the interview for their own records in whatever format they choose. Prior to publishing, we will submit to you a record of the interview: both in digital format and written transcription, giving you the opportunity to review the material for accuracy. Although most journalists do not practice this courtesy, we believe it is the right thing to do. Should transcription errors occur (which are usually phonetic, meaning they are misheard), this allows for the interviewee to notify us of any corrections they may find, which we may honestly miss, or fail to be aware. For this reason, accuracy, although being the primary responsibility of the author/interviewer, is a joint effort by both parties. By this method you have the opportunity to see and review the content being published before it ever goes live. You may not make alterations to the words you’ve spoken, which would falsify the record, and thereby violate the SPJ Code of Ethics. You may only make corrections to transcription errors.
If there is a portion of the interview you do not want publicized, please let us know. We still maintain full rights to the content under copyright law. Understand this is merely a courtesy we offer, and not an obligation. Laws that protect freedom of the press give us full discretion in what portion we may use, and therefore we maintain the right to either decline or approve that request.
We will provide you a publishing date. Please know that all dates are tentative, being subject to change.
Choosing Your Style
Regardless of the interview style you may choose, they are conducted much the same with only minor differences.
The interview questions are conversational and open-ended, allowing for the subject to give answers that satisfy a curious and entertained audience. The goal is to generate interest. The questions proposed (although planned), will largely depend upon your answers, and may change the direction of the interview. We recommend that every interviewee answer those questions with their audience in mind — not the interviewer.
Accuracy is the goal. Whether you choose in person, via phone, Skype or a written document, your words will be preserved precisely as you’ve spoken or written them. If at any point you wish to delete a portion, please make that clear prior to publishing the content. Once it goes live, we do not make changes to raw content.
All interviews will require the following from the interviewee:
1.) A formal appointment either in person, by phone or via Skype.
2.) Written permission from the interviewee. We will provide you a consent form and accompanying documents to prepare.
3.) A photograph of the interviewee’s choice in a jpeg format (960 x 500 minimum). If it is a registered trademark logo, such will be credited in the publication as being used with permission along with the said copyrights. All image credits will be clearly stated with regard to who gave permission, the copyright, and any other credits such as photographers named and the individual photographed. Therefore, please include such information with the image along with permission for use.
4.) A disclosure of the web address or link(s) the interviewee would like published in accordance with the interview. We ask that these be limited to three. For example: one for your website, one for work(s) on Amazon or other distributor, and one for video media.
Modifications can give rise to quarrels and questions within the public eye. Once modifications are made to material already published, those alterations become areas of dispute that do not favor you. That change in information may very well discredit you. It also breeds questions about the integrity and credibility of this ministry, and our ability to accurately represent our guests. For this reason, we strongly caution against modifications, giving you ample opportunity to review the material prior to publishing.
We are happy to make modifications after publication that do not alter the official record with regard to the following:
2.) Grammar or punctuation errors
3.) Transcription errors
5.) Pictures used
6.) Updated or corrected links to your work
Should you ever want an interview deleted, please let us know. In the event you should want or need the interview deleted please submit the following in writing:
1.) The desire to delete.
2.) The reason why
3.) Authorization for disclosure of the deletion.
As the copyright holder, we reserve the right to decline a deletion.
Again, such deletions give rise to questions among the public, which are never favorable. We do not suggest a deletion unless it is absolutely necessary.
As the copyright entity, please know that we also reserve the right to delete an interview. In the unfortunate event that there is a breach of Christian conduct, or violation of copyright law by which we would no longer be able to endorse your ministry or work, the interview will be subject to deletion. Such instances are usually extreme and are very sad. We do not anticipate this happening, and we hope it never does. However, situations do arise when those measures are appropriate and necessary (please see 2 John 9-11). In such cases we will notify you in writing of the deletion and the reason why.
All interviews conducted are subject to copyright as the property of Appointed Time Press, LLC under the copyright laws of the United States of America.
Guest posts may come either by invitation or request. We are pleased to provide an opportunity and platform for you to share your testimony, story, experience, or message. Whether you’re a lay individual or a global ministry, this is where Appointed Time Press, LLC wants to help.
A signed contractual agreement must be obtained for all guest posts along with secured payment of our $125 fee.
Because we are a Christian organization we require that your content be in agreement with our CORE, and come from proven and reputable sources. That means we fact-check, fully vet, and carefully screen our guests as well as the content they wish to publish. These are the things we look for prior to accepting a guest:
If you have a story, testimony or message for the Body of Christ, contact us and let us know. If you’re not familiar with being published, it’s important to know that what you share is entirely at your discretion, and that once it’s published it becomes permanent. Therefore, take the time needed to consider carefully what it is you want to share.
With that said, we spend time one-on-one with you prior to any publication. We will allow you time to tell your story, ask us questions, and we’ll provide you answers and guidance.
All guest posts remain the copyrighted material of its author. This will be outlined within the written agreement, as well as displayed upon the published work. Although we do not suggest modifications or deletions for reasons that breed questions among the public, that copyright gives you full rights to your work. You may modify or delete the work at any time. Simply notify us in writing, and we will oblige you accordingly.
We will provide you a publishing date. Please know that all dates are tentative, being subject to change.
Co-authors are usually sought for a particular purpose. They either contribute to the voice and style desired, or they provide the expertise, skills, professional background or knowledge required for that particular topic, adding weight and validity to the subject matter. If you are seeking co-authorship for a particular work or project, please contact me, and we can discuss details.
To begin the process please send a requisition below providing as much information about you and your work as possible. If your request is considered I will arrange for a formal interview via Skype.
Our podcast is currently in production and a release date is yet to be determined. Please check back with us here, or you may sign up with our newsletter to receive updates.
